#FriFavFive – Five #ActualPedagogy Resources

As I talked about in last week’s Live Office Hours (watch the replay on Facebook, YouTube, or Vimeo), classes, books, courses, conferences, and symposia often say that they’re offering “pedagogy” when what they’re *actually* offering is anatomy and physiology or acoustics or body awareness or neuroscience or any number of other (terrific!) things.

All of which can supplement and support our pedagogy … but none of which actually ARE pedagogy.

(I know, I know – there’s a case to be made that while we learn more about HOW the voice works, for example, we are also learning how to teach in a more efficient way and I don’t (entirely) disagree that this is possible.)

I’m just out here saying that there are *actual pedagogy* resources out there that WILL support you becoming a more effective teacher. No matter how much you already know about how the voice works.

Of the #actualpedagogy resources that have a robust social media presence, here are five of my favs:

Cult of Pedagogy (Jennifer Gonzalez) – honestly? more resources here than one could feasibly go through in a lifetime so maybe start by clicking the ‘start here’ button at the top of the website. #yourewelcome

Teachers Going Gradeless – start by perusing the blog posts (or not – I’m not the boss of you).

Dr. Jody Carrington – I kind of think of her as the (Canadian!) Brene Brown of education circles.

Mr. Chazz (Lewis) – his reels are chef’s kiss.

Tera Sumpter, MA & CCC-SLP – seemingly unending resources to support your pedagogy – especially if you work predominantly with children and teens.

AND, if you’re interested in practicing your pedagogy with me (Dr C)* this summer, stay tuned for a few ways to do just that. Also, if you’re interested in a long-term, fully immersive journey to getting on the best teaching trajectory you possibly can, consider joining the 2023/2024 cohort of The VoicePed UnDegree.
